New Year, New you

Make 2013 brilliant for you with some New Year resolutions that really count.  We are now one week into the new year and I’m sure many New Year resolutions have already failed.  Why do we find it so hard to stick to these  promises?  The reason for most of us out there is that you have not made a real SMART goal.  A SMART goal is one that is much easier to achieve and much harder to break because a lot more thought has gone into it and you also own the goal.  You don’t own a goal if someone tells or suggests to you that smoking is bad and not great for your children to inhale second hand smoke.  This is not your own decision and so it is likely that you may give up for a short while and then go back to it.  With a SMART goal you own it because you come up with the idea and timeframe yourself.  Let’s see how to come up with a SMART goal.  First of all you’ll need to know what the acronym means.

S = Specific

M = Measurable

A =Achievable

R = Realistic

T = Timeframe

Some of you may have goals such as ‘I want to lose my beer belly’ or ‘I want to lose my bingo wings’ or ‘I want to lose weight.’ These goals make me ask ‘how much of your belly do you want to lose?’ or ‘do you want thinner arms or toned arms?’ or ‘how much weight do you want to lose?’  If the goals are SMART goals I won’t need to ask those extra questions.  Take the last one for example.  To make this SMART lets break it down.

Specific  – Lose 1 stone

Measurable – Yes, weigh on bathroom scales

Achievable – Yes, this will put me at a healthy weight

Realistic – Yes, I currently eat bad foods and don’t exercise.  If this changes, so will my weight.

Timeframe – 2 months. This allows enough time to lose weight at a safe rate.

Now the goal looks like this.  ‘I want to lose a stone in two months by changing my food choices and taking up exercises.’  This is a much better goal as there is a clear target and timeframe to reach it in.  If you are using an Exuberant Fitness personal trainer in Manchester, you will go through goal setting as part of your free consultation.  This sets you up on the pathway to success.

  1. If we are not taking proper meals at right time then above
    exercise and taking water is waste because empty stomach never helps
    for work or any other thing. In turn, only a few folks have ever maintained such diets, much
    less be near to maintaining one. Today there are a lot of weight-loss programs available on the internet which helps you
    keep a count on the number of calories you have added
    after a meal so on and so forth like cutting out on fats
    and sugars from diet etc. So follow nice ways which never makes problem in your daily

    1. Hi Manie,

      Thank you for your comments. I agree with you completely that having the meals at the right time is important and an empty stomach is not a benefit in weight loss. There is no advice given on exercise and water intake in this post, so I am unsure what you are referring to. The aim of this post is to give an insight to Goal setting, something we do with our clients before we start training them. Diet goals will be looked at as well if needed.

      Thanks for visiting the website, and remember to contact Exuberant Fitness if you are looking for Personal Training in Manchester.
