Clients stories

Kerry Quarterman
Nurse
Steve you have been amazing!! When I started going to the gym it was to look better, lose weight and gain fitness. I now love going to the gym. I miss it when I am unable to go. (I even get a bit grumpy when I've not been able to go).

Jaanai King
Student / Waitress
Before I started training with Steven I was in the gym and I had no idea what I was doing, resulting in me just stretching my muscles. When I first started training I could feel the difference in my body, I could feel my different muscle groups actually working...

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy takes a holistic view looking at the whole person rather than just the problem area. By using a combination of exercise, manual therapy and other treatment methods we are able to relieve pain, promote healing and restore movement, strength and function. Physiotherapy can improve your quality of life, allowing you to resume activities you’ve been finding hard to manage.
Initial Injury Assessment
The assessment is where I meet with you at the clinic to assess your needs. The physiotherapy assessment is done through a series of questions regarding your aches and pains including; when it started, the cause (if known), how painful it is, when it affects you most and so on. I will also complete some movement and strength tests as necessary to provide you with an accurate diagnosis. I will then provide some treatment and may advise you on some home exercises to get you started in your rehab before you book in for your review session. This process can take up to 30-45 mins depending on your condition.
Physio / Rehab
The physio / injury rehab sessions are the main treatment sessions. This is where I will use a combination of exercise, manual (hands-on) therapy and other treatment methods to aid in restoring your function, strength and pain relief. I may end it with further advice on self treatment methods to aid your rehabilitation. These physiotherapy rehab sessions can take up to 30-60 mins.
What to wear
Please wear clothing that is both suitable and comfortable. I need to be able to access the area of pain and you must be able to move freely for any treatment or exercise. So a tight pair of skinny jeans or short skirt for your knee pain is no good. It’s usually best to wear loose fitting clothing or gym wear if possible.
How will I feel?
After the assessment or treatment you may find that you have some aches and pains. This is normal, as the body will be undergoing additional stresses compared to a normal day. This should ease within a 1-2 days, and you should start to feel the benefits of the treatment from there onwards.
What should I do afterwards?
Everyone reacts different to the treatments and you will all have different lifestyles that can have an affect on your condition. The majority of clients I see only need approximately 4 rehab sessions after the assessment. Some may need less and some may need a lot more, again depending on the many variables of the person and of their condition. Fortnightly or monthly maintenance sessions help to prevent any further injury.

By using a combination of exercise, manual therapy and other treatment methods we are able to relieve pain, promote healing and restore movement, strength and function. Physiotherapy can improve your quality of life, allowing you to resume activities you’ve been finding hard to manage.
Acupuncture stems from Traditional Chinese Medicine and entails stimulating certain points on the body with very thin needles to decrease muscle and joint aches and pains.
Can I combine this with physio, rehab or sports massage?
You can combine the healing properties of acupuncture with physio or sports massage to further progress your rehab. Please note that a small charge will be added to your session fee should we agree that acupuncture may be beneficial for you.
What to wear
Please be aware that you may need to remove tops, trousers etc to allow me to reach the parts of your body that I am needling (applying acupuncture).
How will I feel?
You are not likely to feel the insertion of the needles at most acupuncture points except for a quick pin prick sensation lasting for maybe one second if it occurs. During the treatment you may feel a heaviness, deep ache, or even a tingling sensation. I personally get an itch if needles are placed in my hands. Many people start to feel better and other benefits the following day.
What should I do afterwards?
Bringing a sweet snack and some water to have immediately after the acupuncture may be beneficial, especially if you feel light headed after the treatment. Everyone reacts differently to the treatments and you will all have different lifestyles that can have an affect on your condition. The majority of clients I see only need approximately 3-6 acupuncture treatments after the assessment. Fortnightly or monthly maintenance sessions help to prevent any further injury.
Sports Massage

Sports massage is also sometimes referred to as deep tissue massage. This type of massage can be used to relieve and treat normal day-to-day aches and pains from a sore neck or bad back, to fitness and ports related pains such tight hamstrings or a muscle strain. Sports massage can be used to treat tendons, ligaments, muscle and other soft tissues in the body to correct any muscle imbalances, tension, posture or flexibility.
How long will the massage last?
Please note that approximately 5-10 minutes of your massage appointment will be used to allow time for you to arrive, get changed, tell me what you want doing and then time again at the end to change and possibly some advice for further care.
What to wear
Please be aware that you may need to remove tops, trousers etc to allow me to reach the parts of your body that I am massaging. You will be covered with a towel to remain warm and cover up any areas I am not currently working on at the time of your massage.
How will I feel?
As I will be aiming to reach deeper muscle fibres compared to Swedish massage, you may find some of the techniques painful. After the assessment or treatment you may find that you have some aches and pains. This is normal, as the body will be undergoing additional stresses and manipulations compared to a normal day. This should ease within a day you should start to feel the benefits of the treatment from there onwards.
What should I do afterwards?
Rehydrate with lots of water after the massage and try to relax. I recommend that you try to rest for 24hrs after the massage. Rest does not mean bedrest, it means not doing anything strenuous that may reverse the work the massage has done to your muscles, so going the the gym or playing a sport right after is no good (unless you have a pre-event massage). Fortnightly or monthly maintenance sessions help to prevent any further injury.
